PM Internship Scheme — As the name suggests, this is a government scheme was launched on October 3, 2024. Announced in the Union Budget for 2024-25, the scheme kicked off with a pilot project for the financial year 2024-25, targeting 1.25 lakh internships. The internship opportunities span 24 sectors, including oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, automotive, and banking and financial services, etc. The companies selected for this pilot were identified based on their corporate social responsibility (CSR) expenditure over the past three years, ensuring that participants are placed in organizations that are committed to social and ethical practices.

Objective of PM Internship Scheme
- PM Internship Program: It is a planned programme designed to give practical experience and learn experience to the participants of government projects.

Key Features of the PM Internship Program
The Prime Minister's Internship Scheme has these essential support structures, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) model with extensive beneficiary advantages. Key highlights include:
- Monthly Stipend: Interns will be paid ₹5,000/month for 12 months. Of this, ₹500 comes from the company through its CSR funds, while the government transfers ₹4,500 to the intern's Aadhaar-linked bank account.
- Incidentals Grant: The government will transfer 6,000 as a one-time grant for incidentals through Direct Benefit Transfer, when the intern joins in at the place of internship.
- Training Costs: As per extant rules, the training of interns under the Scheme, would be the responsibility of the company from its CSR funds.
- Insurance Coverage: The Governing body shall provide coverage under schemes of the Government of India, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, for each interm. The premium amount shall be borne by the Government. Moreover, the company gets to offer added coverage to the interns who get either accidents or insurance for accidents, etc.
The modules have been designed to help make individuals more employable through industry exposure and hands-on work experience.

Online Application Portal:
The PM Internship Scheme application process is entirely online, making it convenient for applicants across the country. Be sure to access the official portal regularly to stay updated on any deadlines, updates, or additional requirements.
Eligibility Criteria:
Age
Youth aged between 21 and 24 (as on the last date for submission of application), belonging to Indian nationality, who are not employed full-time and not engaged in full-time education. Candidates enrolled in online/ distance learning programmes are eligible to apply.
Internship Duration:
Duration of the internship shall be 12 months. At least half of the internship period must be spent in the actual working experience/ job environment, and not in the classroom.
Partner Companies
The top companies for this Pilot Project have been identified on the basis of the average of CSR expenditure of the last three years. Participation of the companies in this Scheme is voluntary. Apart from these, any other company/ bank/ financial institution desirous of participating in the Scheme, may do so with the approval of the MCA, which would take a view considering sectors and areas under represented by the above mentioned 500 companies.
Who Can Apply for the PM Internship Scheme?
The Pilot Project offers a 12-month internship program designed for youth aged 21 to 24 years, specifically for Indian nationals who are not employed full-time or engaged in full-time education. Candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible to apply. Internships can be applied for through the PM Internship Portal, from October 12, 2024. The Project aims to 1.25 lakh internships for the Financial Year 2024-25.
Education Qualification::
Candidates who have passed High School or Higher Secondary School, have a certificate from an ITI, have a diploma from a polytechnic institute. Graduated with degrees such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
Ineligibility:
Here’s a list of ineligibility in PM Internship Scheme:
- Graduates from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, and IIITs
- GHolders of qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master’s or higher degree.
- GThose undergoing skill, apprenticeships, internships, or student training under Central or State government schemes.
- GIndividuals who have completed apprenticeships under National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
- GIf the income of any of the family members of the candidate exceeds Rs 8 Lakh for FY 2023-24.
- GFamily members of permanent or regular government employees.
